Key lessons here -
4 ideas from John:
On learning: “If I tell you, you don’t learn. If I let you find, you will grow.”
“Advise is information that is often manipulated because you have someone with an organic desire to be better and have not found their path yet.”
On seeking perfection: Don’t sacrifice the good for the perfect.
“Take what you do seriously, but do not take yourself seriously.”
On giving: Offer a piece of your heart.
Leadership is giving a bit more of yourself. Be willing to be vulnerable, be willing to be honest.
On being authentic: Authenticity is the greatest ingredient missing from the recipe of leadership today.
We don’t trust our banking system because of scandals. We don’t trust media because of fake news or phone tapping. We don’t trust our politicians because they have a secret agenda.
3 mindset shifts to consider:
1. It begins with a fundamental belief that you are the master of your destiny.
“Your zip code doesn’t have to be your destiny.
Your father doesn’t have to be your fate.”
2. Be audacious enough to believe that tomorrow can be bright.
No matter how dark your life has been. Having a core belief that hope is at the heart of it.
3. We are the leaders of today.
“Young people are no longer going to be the silent victims of war.
No longer be the leaders of tomorrow. We are the leaders of today.
We are not adults to be, we are not citizens in training. You are an equal, valid, powerful person today.
Take empowerment, because it can never be given.”
1 action and 1 question for me and you:
/ Go out there and try!
There’s no point of having talent, if there’s no action otherwise you just become an academic, a pontificator or a theorist.
The world is changed by people who are willing to go out there and try.
/ How do I make the person next to me better?
Onward and upward!
